001: What It Means to Have an Uncommon Practice

What does it mean to have an uncommon practice? When I was in graduate training, I had an inner feeling that I didn’t want to grow a traditional practice. At first, I felt bad about it. I felt different. Traditional therapy all day, every day didn’t sound like the right avenue for me. The other things that therapists traditionally do like research, teaching or assessment didn’t sound like full-time jobs I wanted either.

I know I am not alone. Many other therapists, coaches and healers feel this way too. In this episode, I am exploring why I felt this way and the three elements of an uncommon practice. You’ll learn about not letting fears keep you stagnant, why you have to honor your values and so much more!

What you’ll find in this episode:

  • Why I always knew I didn’t want a traditional practice

  • The prerequisite for creating an uncommon practice

  • The 3 elements of an uncommon practice

  • Why you have to unhook from what others think and tap into your inner strength

  • How you can honor your values while running an uncommon practice

  • Why you shouldn’t let your fears hold you back

The Uncommon Couch is the place for therapists and coaches who want to take their practice on the road less traveled.
